“CLICK IT OR TICKET,” IT’S THAT SIMPLE AND SAVES LIVES
Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011
By: California Highway Patrol (CHP)
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Getting in your car and putting on your seat belt should be second
nature, whether you are a driver or a passenger. Take a second of your time and always buckle
up before heading out on the highway.
As a reminder of this life-saving advice, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is participating in
the Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign Nov. 18 – 27, 2011. During this time, law
enforcement throughout the state actively look for drivers and passengers who are unbuckled.
Click It or Ticket has a successful track record since its inception in 2005; California’s seat belt
usage rate has increased from a 90.4 percent in 2001 to a record-high, 96.02 percent in 2010.
This increase represents more than 1.25 million more vehicle occupants who buckle up.
“It’s encouraging to see seat belt usage is up and fatalities are at a record-low in California,” said
CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. “Through this heightened statewide enforcement effort our
goal is to further increase seat belt and child passenger safety seat use, and continue to save
lives.”
According to the Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System, in 2009 there were 544 vehicle
passengers killed who were not wearing a seat belt or using a child safety seat; more than 9,400
others were injured under similar circumstances. Last year, CHP officers issued more than
155,000 citations to drivers and or passengers who failed to buckle up.
The minimum cost of an adult seat belt violation in California is $142, and up to $445 for not
properly restraining a child under 16 years of age. If the parent is not in the car, the driver is issued
the ticket.
“We would prefer not to write the ticket,” added Commissioner Farrow. “I’d like to see
everyone make safe choices and eliminate preventable tragedies on our roadways.”
Click It or Ticket is a cooperative effort among the five traffic safety-related departments under
the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency: CHP, Office of Traffic Safety, Department of
Transportation, Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and the Department of Motor
Vehicles.

Injured in an Auto Accident? Why You Need an Attorney
Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
San Diego, CA It is common for people to question why they would benefit from legal representation when they have insurance. There are many reasons to retain an attorney. If you are injured in an auto accident, you will want to make sure your interests (not the insurance company’s) are protected, and that you are fully compensated for your damages. An attorney will ensure your medical bills and lost earnings are paid, and that you obtain the proper medical treatment to ensure your injuries do not become chronic in nature.
The Law Office of Ryan Harris is dedicated to protecting the rights of injured persons and their families in the San Diego and Orange County regions. We are here to assist you through all areas of your personal injury case. We understand individuals cannot always prepare for the unexpected; however, we encourage you to take some simple measures to help ensure your interests are protected if an auto accident should occur.
If you are involved in an auto accident, it is important to gather necessary information. The information you need is set forth on our Auto Accident Form which you can download from the right hand side of our website. When a traumatic event happens it is easy for anyone to become overwhelmed, forget to ask the right questions, and obtain much needed information. Please carry the Auto Accident Form in the glove compartment of each of your automobiles. It will serve as your guide in gathering all of the pertinent information you will need to ensure your interests are protected.
In addition to completing your auto accident form it is also wise to place a call to your insurance carrier to initiate a claim. Your auto insurance carrier will begin the claim process and process the necessary forms required by the DMV.
When you are represented by Harris Personal Injury Lawyers you will be assured that your interests, not the insurance company’s, are protected. While you focus on obtaining appropriate medical treatment and recovering from your injuries, our office will handle all of the phone calls, letters, and demands of the insurance companies. Recent Auto Accident Case Victory
Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008
A San Diego client retained the Law Offices of Ryan Harris in the summer of 2006. She had been involved in a motor vehicle collision a year earlier. The insurance company for the defendant had taken the position she was 60% responsible for the accident. As a result, the insurance company had only offered the client a couple of thousand dollars to settle her case, despite the fact that she had sustained significant neck, right shoulder, and lower back injuries.
The case went to trial in May 2008, nearly 3 years after the accident. The jury returned a $365,000 verdict, with $100,000 awarded for past medical expenses, $40,000 awarded for future medical expenses, $25,000 awarded for past pain and suffering, and $200,000 awarded for future pain and suffering.
Post trial, a memorandum of costs was filed and the trial judge awarded an additional $99,666 in addition to the $365,000 verdict for prevailing party costs, and CCP Section 998 interest and costs.
After the Judge’s rulings, the insurance company agreed to pay $465,000 to satisfy the judgment. If you have suffered from a similar personal injury, please contact our lawyers to learn more about our personal injury legal process and how we can help you.
