Two injured in suspected DUI accident in Fallbrook

FALLBROOK — On Wednesday around 6:40 p.m. a husband and his wife were on a motorcycle ride in Fallbrook, CA. They were traveling on South Mission Road when they were stuck by a truck who made a left-hand turn in front of the couple.

According to CHP Officer Chris Parent, Stuart and Elizabeth Lessig had to be transported to Palomar Hospital as they sustained major injuries.

The driver of the truck, Randall Arnold, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol said.

Arnold was driving North on South Mission Road and failed to yield when making a left-hand turn on to Almond Street. Both Stuart and Elizabeth Lessig were ejected from the motorcycle when the accident occurred.

Women Killed on Halloween Night Crash On The 805

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Thoy Insixiengmay, aged 56, and Tem Thirakul, aged 59, were struck by a FedEx tractor-trailer after their sedan spun out of control while entering the southbound side of the freeway from Clairemont Mesa Boulevard around 10 p.m. Monday night according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office.

Medics also took a third victim to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries of undisclosed severity.

Woman killed in I-15 crash identified

A victim has been identified in the accident on the I-15 that began as a series of crashes early Saturday morning. Elvai Ruby Gomez, 21, of Escondido was killed after her car, a 1992 Honda Accord, was sideswiped by a 1998 BMW and then was hit by Officer Jason Prokop, in his 2011 Mazda 6. The accident occurred on the I-15 freeway just south of Mira Mesa Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Prokop, an off-duty police officer, got out of his car after the crash and ran over to assist Elvai Ruby Gomez. As Officer Prokop was crossing lanes of traffic to assist Ruby Gomez, he was struck by a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer.

Both Officer Jason Prokop and Elvai Ruby Gomez were pronounced dead at the scene.

North Park Cyclist Accident

A man in his twenties suffered serious head trauma after colliding with a car door while riding his bike in San Diego.

According to San Diego Police, the accident occurred Wednesday in North Park around 7 pm on University Avenue near 28th Street. While traveling west on University, the cyclist collided with a car door when the door was suddenly opened by the driver of a parked 2008 Dodge sedan. Upon impact, the cyclist was ejected from his bike.

The cyclist was sent to the hospital immediately.

El Cajon Man Killed in Trolley Accident

In El Cajon yesterday a man was hit and killed by the San Diego Trolley. Andre Duff Zollicoffer, 48-years old, was identified today by the county Medical Examiner’s office.

The accident occurred around 2:30 pm on Wednesday just east of the Arnele Avenue station in El Cajon. Trolley services in El Cajon were shut down in both directions for 2 hours.

Onlookers told authorities that Zollicoffer walked out onto the tracks from the trolley platform into the path of the southbound trolley. The trolley driver sounded the horn and turned on the emergency brakes but it was too late. As Zollicoffer tried to get back to the platform, he was struck by the trolley. He suffered major head trauma and died at the scene.

According to Monica Zech, a spokeswoman for the Heartland Fire and Rescue, Andre appeared to have stepped off the platform onto the tracks initially to see if the trolley was coming then tried to retreat when he noticed how close it was.

2 bicyclists hospitalized after being struck by car in Mission Bay

On Saturday in Mission Bay, 2 bicyclists were hospitalized after being struck by a car whose driver left the scene but later returned according to San Diego Police

The accident happened in Mission Bay Park, Saturday morning around 7:50 am when a 1990 Ford Taurus, which was traveling south on 3500 Mission Bay Drive, failed to make a curve correctly and hit on of the riders. The Bicyclist fractured a lower left leg and suffered facial abrasions said San Diego police Officer Frank Cali.

When the first biker was struck the collision caused the seconded biker to ride into a light pole. Both bicyclists were taken to a local hospital for treatment to their injuries.

Bicyclist Hit By Car In Encinitas

On Wednesday afternoon bicyclist Todd Caulkin, 40, was struck by a vehicle in Encinitas.

Caulkin was making a left turn at Encinitas Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway when when he was hit by the vehicle authorities said. Caulkin was seriously injured and had to be helicoptered to the hospital for immediate treatment.

Car Crashes into El Cajon Structure, Driver leaves Passenger

In El Cajon last night a man crashed his car into two local businesses and left his injured passenger behind as he fled the scene on foot. The accident happened on the 500 block of East Main St.

According to witnesses the driver crashed, at speeds around 100 miles per hour, into Prince Optical Wireless Eye Glass shop and the Bagdad Cafe, then got out of the car and took off. Police said the driver lost control two stoplights before the collision at the interaction of Clyadell St. The injured passenger had to be rushed to Sharp Memorial hospital.

Reno Air Race Crash, 75 Injured

On Friday at a popular air show in Reno Nevada, a World War II era fighter plane plunged into the grandstands leaving a horrific scene of wreckage. There were at least 75 injured and 10 dead.

The plane was flown by Jimmy Leeward, a veteran stuntman, who may have been unconscious when his World War II-era P-51 Mustang smashed into a crowd of spectators.

Heros Lift Burning Car To Save Biker

Check out this amazing video capturing a group of onlookers working together to lift a burning car off a motorcyclist and drag the man to safety. The event took place yesterday in Utah after a BMW and a motorcyclist crashed into each other.
