On Tuesday morning, a high-speed chase originating in Riverside County ended after the driver crashed into a guardrail near the Escondido area. According to ABC 10News, the incident began

in Hemet at around 1:00 am when a Toyota Camry driver reported being carjacked at gunpoint. Murietta Police soon spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver sped off onto southbound I-15.

CHP laid down spike strips on southbound I-15 near Gopher Canyon Road, but the Camry continued south even after severely damaging its front tires. The Camry ended up veering into the center divider near the Deer Springs Road exit, where it then swerved to the right and crashed into a guardrail. When officers approached the wreck, they found the driver dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

All impacted lanes on southbound I-15 near Deer Springs Road were reopened by 10:45 am.
